Development Costs

We have a new client that underwent a refinance a few years back. As a part of the refinance, a developer fee was paid out to the project sponsor. These fees were capitalized as an asset on the balance sheet and are now being amortized. We are questioning this treatment. Is this typically how the costs are treated or should they have been expensed?

Thanks,

Les Sparks

Chase, developer fees do not usually end up in debt issuance costs.  I see them capitalized in the asset itself, but never is debt issuance costs.
