Our PHA Conference provides professional education for Public Housing Financial Personnel, Auditors, Fee Accountants, and Financial Managers. Each session is presented by experts in the industry.

  • Session 1 - HUD - HUD CFO Initiatives - Use of Single Audits and Artificial Intelligence
    One of the duties of HUD’s CFO is to provide a planned program of action and monitoring for all of HUD’s grants. This session will discuss HUD’s CFO initiatives in its use of: • Single Audits, Compliance Supplement, and Payment Integrity; and • Amplifying HUD’s Understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Oversight. Presented by Office of HUD CFO (OCFO) - MelaJo Kubacki, Anthony Smith, & Shannon Steinbauer
  • Session 2 - REAC Update, Nspire, and Others
    During this session Ms. Sheriff will provide and update on recent REAC initiatives, including Nspire inspections, System Initiatives and other Information. Presented by Ashley Sheriff
  • Session 3 - Accounting Update
    Discussion on the latest HUD reviews on due to's and Due from's and results of latest QAD and QAT reviews; Latest from GASB. Presented by Nick Auriemma & Brian Alten
  • Session 4 - Quality Assurance Subsystem
    This session will consist of a quality control review (QCR) findings, update, common financing reporting errors discussion, and a presentation on Pubic Housing Assessment System (PHAS) financial indicator scoring. Presented by Wendell Conner & James Thompson
  • Session 5 - Moving to Work (MTW) Panel Discussion
    This session will discuss the many issues facing MTW agencies and auditors that need to be addressed due to the increased numbers of MTW participants. Presented by Speaker Panel

  • Session 6 - Quality Control Standards for Auditors
    This session will address the impact of pending changes in both GASS and GAGAS related to the implementation of revised quality control standards. Chad will also address the impacts of recent QASS QCRs on his quality control procedures. Presented by Chad Porter
  • Session 7 - Public Housing Update & HCV Update
    This session will cover timely topics for both the Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Program, as well as any other major initiatives and changes in PIH affecting PHA finances and accounting. Topics covered in this session mainly focus on:
    • General Public Housing, Capital Fund and HCV updates; • New Initiatives, HUD Reporting Risk Areas and FDS Reporting Guidance; and • Funding Levels and Eligible Use of Funds. Presented by Ron Urlaub & Chris Kubacki
  • Session 8 - Audit Update
    This session will include any relevant changes in Audit Standards affecting PHA Audits. Will be addressing GAAS and GAGAS and the pending changes to Quality Control standards. Presented by Les Sparks

    This session will be used to address all remaining questions from the audience that have not been previously answered or discussed. Presented by Speaker Panel

CPE Details

Learning Objective: To gain an understanding of Public Housing systems, programs, reporting, use of funds, and more.
Who Should Attend: Housing Authority Executive Directors, Public Housing and HCV Supervisors, Finance Directors, Auditors, and other financial personnel
Program Knowledge Level / Prerequisites: This course is update-level content. You should have a basic knowledge of the Public Housing environment.
Advanced Preparation: No advanced preparation is required. Printed materials will be provided to in-person attendees. In-Person and Virtual attendees will be given the opportunity to download digital materials.
Instructional Method: AHACPA Conferences are group live programs. Participants may in-person or remotely. In cases where Group Live and Group Internet Based are offered simultaneously AHACPA will issue CPE Credit for all program participants based on the instructional delivery method attended by the majority of the participants (Per NASBA Standard S23-02).
Length/CPE Credits/Field of Study: This course provides up to 16 CPE Credits in Governmental Accounting. CPE credits are based on a 50-minute hour, in accordance with the standards for the National Registry of CPE Sponsors.
Cancellation Policy: All cancellation requests must be received in writing (email or fax is fine).
Webinars: All cancellation requests must be received via email (info@ahacpa.org). Registration fees are fully refundable provided the request is received a minimum of 24 hours prior to the course start time. Individuals cancelling less than 24 hours prior to the course start time will not receive a refund, but will be provided access to the course materials and the recorded version of the course. CPE/Attendance credit is not provided for watching the recording.
In-Person Courses: Registration fees are fully refundable provided the request is received at least three weeks prior to the course. Requests received after this date, but one week before the course will receive a refund less an administration fee of $100. Due to financial obligations incurred by AHACPA, no refunds will be issued for cancellation requests received less than a week before the course. In the unlikely Course that AHACPA must cancel a course, all registrations fees paid to AHACPA by attendees will be refunded in full.
Substitutions: If you are unable to attend a course you may substitute another individual or change locations without penalty. The change must be within the same calendar year. For proper CPE credit and record keeping, you must notify us in advance of any substitution or change in location.
